What is an energy Rating?
An energy Rating is an
energy efficiency
delivery system, designed
provide more home for less money to building owners and
purchasers.
An energy Rating provides a standardized evaluation of a home's
energy efficiency and expected energy use costs. The
evaluation is conducted in accordance with uniform standards and
includes a detailed home energy use assessment, conducted by a
state-certified Rater, using an advanced set of nationally
accredited energy and economic analysis procedures and verified
software tools.
The full delivery system
consists of the following:
- A state statute (Florida
Building Energy Efficiency Ratings Act) requiring the
Florida Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to adopt,
update and maintain a uniform, statewide system for rating the
energy efficiency of buildings.
- A Florida Administrative Code rule (FAC
9B-60) implementing this state statute.
- National mortgage industry accreditation
and registration through the Residential Energy Services
Network (RESNET) and the National Association of State Energy
Officials (NASEO).
- A comprehensive set of software tools (ENERGYGAUGE®)
capable of complex energy, economic and financial analysis and
reporting.
- A pool of State-certified Raters who are trained, tested and evaluated on an on-going basis.
- A pool of Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM) bankers,
who have agreed to participate in loan programs designed to
promote building energy efficiency in the mortgage market.
- A pool of state, federal, utility, and mortgage industry programs
designed to provide market incentives for improved building
energy efficiency.
- A centralized administrative and customer support
office and "hotline" at (407) 638-1492.
- A centralized database Registry containing all Florida
Ratings.
